Since my current project (fancy new wall in my living room — stay tuned!) has been taking forever, I figured I would continue to share some of the inspiration I came across when I was in the research phase of my tub skirt.
Since my DIY tub skirt is a clear fan favorite, it only made sense to share the some of the DIY tub skirts and tub skirt inspiration I came across.
Obviously, the type of tub skirt you do depends on the type of tub that you have and the look that you are going for. I will try to include a variety of different looks so that hopefully one of them resonates with you!
I am going to break it down into 4 main categories:
Wainscoting Tub Skirt
Wainscoting is a decorative and functional system of wood panels, chair railing (framing), and moulding.
The Moulding Company
The image below is an example of wainscoting from The Moulding Company.
Believe it or not, you can add a wainscoting design to your bathtub!
You can do more of a sleek wainscoting (e.g., above) or more of a traditional look (e.g., below).
You can even extend the wainscoting to also function as a tub surround as well!
Beadboard
Since beadboard is a “sub-type” of wainscoting, I figured I would also show a couple beadboard examples!
Beadboard, the most common type of wainscoting, is a row of narrow wood planks made up of tongue-and-groove panels and installed vertically on a wall.

Shiplap Tub Skirt
Shiplap is another common design element used for tub skirts!
In interior design, shiplap is a style of wooden wall siding characterized by long planks.
Wikipedia
These first examples show a painted shiplap design for a nice, clean look.
Another option would be to go for a more natural or more rustic wooden shiplap design.
You can even do a vertical shiplap design!
Tile Tub Skirt
Another option is to add tiles around your bathtub to function as a tub skirt. A big trend right now for remodeling bathrooms is to have the tile you are using in your bathroom also function as a tub skirt as well as a tub surround.
Or you can do more of a design tile if that is more of your style.
If you can’t decide, you can do tiles that look like wood so you can combine a tile and shiplap look.
Brick Tub Skirt
Lastly, you can add bricks as a tub skirt. You can do a more modern look like the example below.
You can also use air stone to get a more authentic brick look.
